Deadline: 2021-06-06
Location: Aarhus, Denmark
Type: Postdoc
About the research group
The laboratory of associate professor Lene N. Nejsum, Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University, Denmark, focuses on epithelial cell biology in health and disease. We are especially interested in AQP water channels and the regulation of AQP2 vesicles shuttling as well as how AQPs regulate cell-cell adhesion via modulation of junctional proteins.
About the research projects
You will be joining one of the following research projects:
Protein trafficking of renal AQP2:
In this position (#1), the postdoctoral candidate will be part of a team that will investigate renal AQP2, which plays a major role in regulation of body water balance via fine-tuning of urine concentration. AQP2 localizes in small intracellular transport vesicles, which upon stimulation with the antidiuretic hormone arginine vasopressin, are inserted in the plasma membrane. The project especially focusses on investigations of the vesicular population using cell culture and bioimaging techniques.
Investigations of the role of AQPs in cellular adhesion in cancer:
In this position (#2), the postdoctoral candidate will be part of a team that will investigate junctional regulation by AQPs; a novel function of the AQPs. The project focuses on AQPs and cellular adhesion in multiple myeloma using various cell biological methods, assays for cancer cell adhesion and invasion as well as in animal models.
Your job responsibilities
As a postdoc your position is primarily research-based but may also involve teaching assignments. You will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with colleagues on your project, where you will receive supervision and guidance.
Your main tasks will consist of:
- Perform independent research of high international quality.
- Contribute to a team of interdisciplinary scientists interested in AQP water channels.
- Disseminate your research via publications and presentations.
You will report to Associate Professor Lene N. Nejsum.
Your competences
You have academic qualifications at the PhD level in molecular biology, cell biology, health sciences or similar, and a goal of developing into an independent researcher. You have a relevant publication track-record, preferably with publications in peer-reviewed internationally recognized journals. The successful applicant is expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills, and a strong enthusiasm for learning and developing new experimental approaches. For both positions, experience with cell biology work is expected and experience with fluorescence microscopy is advantageous. For position #2, experience with models of multiple myeloma is advantageous.
As a person, you are ambitious, take ownership and possess good communication and interpersonal skills. We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.
In order to be assessed as qualified for a postdoc position, you must meet these academic criteria.
Shortlisting will be used.
